At Willoughby Girls High School, camps are an important and fun part of school life. Outdoor education and camps foster teamwork, leadership and initative skills. Students participate in challenging activities in order to increase self esteem, self reliance and self confidence. The intrinsic benefits of all our school camps are socialisation, fun and personal growth.
The Year 7 camp is held during the first week of school at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen. It runs for two days and one night and is designed as a “getting to know each other” opportunity for the Year 7 students and staff. It is packed with social and recreational activities, such as canoeing, high ropes course and initiative games, and is always a great deal of fun as well as a valuable experience. Through the duration of the camp, students realise their potential in communication, decision making, problem solving, resilience, team building and leadership.
All Year 7 students are expected to attend the camp.
The Year 8 ski trip is planned for the end of July/beginning of August. This is a unique opportunity where students take part in a three day and two night snow experience. Students are encouraged to challenge themselves in ability groups to navigate the ski slopes of Thredbo. This experience allows students to enhance their balance, flexibility, endurance and mood as they sharpen their skills on the snow.
Students stay at lodges in Jindabyne and commute to Thredbo daily. This is a fun and memorable camp for students to build character and enhance a range of fitness components in a social environment.
All Year 8 students are expected to attend the camp.
The Year 11 camp is held early in Term 1 and runs for three days and two nights. The camp gives students an opportunity to consider the changes in the learning environment they will encounter in the senior years and to develop skills to adjust to these changes. These skills will include:
All Year 11 students are expected to attend the camp.
